Recently, it was reported by Global Construction Review, in 2019, Russia will request the participants of government projects to apply the BIM. Following the news, Mikhail Menn (Minister of state building, housing and public utilities ) said:" the major motive to apply the BIM in Russia is 30% cost save related to the BIM application in Britain". According to the news from RussianConstruction.com, the entire government project contracts in Russia will add the relevant terms of BIM application since May, 2107.

At the same time, Andrey Belyuchenko (Head of state building, housing and public utilities) revealed a series of plans, including the mandatory provisions about BIM application. He said that the construction personnel in Russia are carrying out the BIM application to varying degrees, but it is conflict with the development creatively of BIM standard by Russia. The construction organization in Russia is very confident to master the BIM application proficiently, even more, they plan to introduce their BIM technical expertise to other countries.

By all appearance, Russia referenced the example of Britain though Russia did not address it formally, because Britain is the one of the fastest growing region in terms of BIM application. As one of countries to launch the BIM application in government project, Britain not only issued the relevant provisions and standards, but also introduced the BIM mandatory provisions with purpose to reduce repetitive work and save the cost.

In June 2016, a study and market report showed that the market value of global BIM will reach to 11.07 billion US dollars by 2020, with the 21.6% year-on-year growth rate from 2016 to 2022. Great increase of project in Asia-Pacific region in particular, it is possible for the growth rate to exceed 21.6% after BIM application is introduced. In July 2016, Timetric Construction Intelligence Center surveyed that the main planning leaders of the global construction industry all agreed that BIM was the future of construction industry.

Foreign BIM Application Cases

BIM Application in “Bray Street No.1” of Sydney

In the project of “Bray Street No.1”, BIM plays a role in sustainable development, cooperation and facilities management, to realize the super scraper with complicated system and facilities and ultra-high energy conservation and environment protection standard.

BIM Application in Britain High Speed Rail Hub

HS2 is the highest cost high-speed railway in Britain, especially, the design for the triangular transportation hub in Birmingham is extra complicate. The terrain model of HS2 project was built within six months by BIM-Bentley software application, plus the optimal track design and efficient collaboration.

BIM Application in Japan Post Tower

Japan Post Tower has 3 floors underground and 38 floors on the ground with total 212,000sqm of construction area. The BIM technology application reduces the pipeline interference hidden in the drawing, helps to establish the construction standard for electromechanical model components, meanwhile improves the consistency of drawing and bill of quantities to control the project schedule.

BIM Application in Underground Expansion of Austria Liauni Museum

Liauni Museum is designed by Querkraft with BIM application, 90% of the building are located on the underground. The application of BIM shows the perfect transition and connection of each planning stage.
