Starting in the December of 2013, Shanghai World Expo Museum recently opened to the public. Seeing from its appearance, Shanghai World Expo Museum shows the shape of a “cloud” with the complicated architectural style of steel structure .

Shanghai World Expo Museum is jointly constructed by Shanghai Municipal Government and Bureau of International Expositions, it is now the unique museum aiming to world exposition in the world. This Museum comprehensively shows more than 160-year history of world expositions and specific events of each exposition, especially for 2010 Shanghai World Expo. The constructed museum is located on the Huangpu River (originally the Puxi site for 2010 Shanghai World Expo). It is the first newly constructed project in the cultural expo region as planned. This project accounts for 40,000sqm, while its total construction area is 46,550sqm (31,950sqm on the ground; 14,600sqm underground ) with the building height of 34.8m (6 floors on the ground; 1 floor underground).

The designing themes of Shanghai World Expo Museum are “Expo Memory” and ”City Life”, which are respectively represented by the “History River” for the past and “Celebration Cloud” for the future. The main building of this museum is “History River”, while “Celebration Cloud” is in the center of museum. Air corridor connects functional areas together such as exhibition area, public service area, roof garden, etc.

“History River” and “Celebration Cloud” are the two highlights but also the main difficulties for this project. Owing to the complicated shape, specific work such as the detailed design, 3D positioning, component processing and site construction of this project face many technical challenges. Among which, the most difficult part of this project is the construction of “Celebration Cloud” [90m(L)x70m(W)x34m(H)]. The bottom of “Celebration Cloud” is made of three columns with the shape of cloud, which are consisted of metal curtain wall, stone curtain wall, glass curtain wall and steel structure. In particular, 3,730 glasses of it seem to be in the same size but actually differ in size, which are constructed according to the data model set by BIM software to guarantee the processing accuracy.
