New CCTV Building

 

New CCTV Building, which is located in Beijing Central Business District together with TV Culture Center, Service Building and the Celebration Square, is designed by Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) led by Rem Koolhaas (Dutchman) and Ole Scheeren (German). The cutting-edge architectural appearance of New CCTV Building was selected as one of the world’s top ten construction miracles in 2007 by American Times, ranking with Linked Hybrid and National Stadium in Beijing.  

 

With an investment of about ¥ 5 billion, the project occupies an area of 197,000 sqm, and the total built-up area is about 550,000 sqm. In addition, the maximum building height is 234 m. The building mainly includes main building (CCTV), TV Culture Center (TVCC), Service Building and the Media Park. After completing the project, CCTV is able to broadcast over 200 channels.

 

The main building of New CCTV Building will be composed of two functional areas, TVCC and Five-Star Hotel. The Five-Star Hotel will be built inside the main building, and some public places such as Hotel Lobby & Restaurant, shops, swimming pools will be set in the Floor 4-5. The North and South Sides above the Hotel Lobby is an atrium encircled by 300 guest rooms, and the top of the main building is used as its specialty restaurant.

 

The two tower buildings of CCTV main building all tilted inward for 6 degrees. For its part above 163 m, they are connected and integrated by L-shaped cantilever structure. Furthermore, glass walls on building exterior surface is composed of strongly irregular geometrical patterns with unique shape, novel structure and high high-tech content. Thus, it is a oversize project with high advanced technology at home and abroad.

 

New CCTV Building was ranked the world’s top ten construction miracles in 2007 by American Times. For the American Travel and Leisure launched the campaign of “The Global New Landmarks Favored by Readers in 2012”, top 5 listed by the readers included Swiss Re Building, New York by Gehry apartment building, Turning Torso, Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai and New CCTV building in Beijing.

 

In Nov. 7, 2013, the selection of “Tall Building Award in 2013” held by Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat announced in Chicago. The Top Prize - “Global Best Tall Building Award in 2013” was won by New CCTV Building.
