The Water Cube for Beijing Olympic Games has been highly praised by Mr. Kevan Gosper, the IOC’s Press Commission Chairman. With 6,700t consumed steel and over 3,000 polyhedral blue bubbles, the Water Cube was constructed by Zhejiang Southeast Space Frame Company Limited (hereinafter referred as Southeast Space Frame).
Southeast Space Frame was founded in Dec., 2001 (its predecessor is Zhejiang Southeast Space Frame Group Limited, founded in Jan., 1984.). It is an IPO steel structural company specializes in design, fabrication and erection. In addition, it is the construction unit for long-span spatial structure; the national high-tech enterprise; the vice-president unit of China Steel Constructions Society; and the excellent construction company in China.
The company has held certificates such as Class A Housing Construction General Contractor, Class A Steel Structural Engineering Contractor, Special Grade for Steel Structural Fabrication and Special Grade for Architectural Metal Roof (Wall) Surface Design and Construction. Besides, its production bases are located in Guangdong, Sichuan, Zhejiang and Tianjin, while its yearly output of steel structure and frame is 460,000t and 6 million sqm for construction board. Now, the company engages in the manufacturing and installation services of various large long-span spatial structures, multilayer heavy steel structures, special-shaped steel structure, general steel structures, residential steel structure and metal containment system.
The company has set up some innovation platform to improve its innovative capacity, like the technical center with national level, national enterprise postdoctoral program, academicians and experts operational site in Zhejiang province, enterprises institute in Zhejiang province, etc. Meanwhile, Southeast Space Frame has built technical cooperation with some universities and institutes, such as Zhejiang University, Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, Zhejiang University of Technology, Zhejiang Building Design & Research Institute, etc.
Since its establishment, Southeast Space Frame has completed more than 8,000 projects. Of which, Chinese domestic projects include Water Cube, Badminton and Gymnastics Competition Hall for Beijing Olympic Games 2008, Beijing Shooting Gallery, T3A Terminal of Beijing Capital International Airport, Hongqiao Integrative Traffic Hub in Shanghai Municipality and City of Dreams in Macao. At the same time, their overseas projects include Costa Rica National Stadium, Benguela Stadium in Angola, Maya International Airport in Brazzaville, Congo, Malawi Stadium, Venezuela Conference Center and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. In addition, this company has won over 200 prizes such as Lu Ban Prize, Zhan Tianyou Award, National Quality Project Award, Spatial Engineering Award, National Steel Structural Gold Award, etc.
Four Production Bases of Southeast Space Frame:
2. Tianjin Base: it is located in Logistics Area of Tianjin Free Trade Zone, Tianjin City; it accounts for 200,000sqm; its yearly output of steel structure and frame is 120,000t and 1 million sqm for construction board.
3. Guangzhou Base: it is located in Fanyu District, Fanyu City; it accounts for 150,000sqm; its yearly output of steel structure and frame is 100,000t and 1 million sqm for construction board.
4. Chengdu Base: it is located in Xinjin Industrial Park-Block A, Chengdu City; it accounts for 200,000sqm; its yearly output of steel structure and frame is 120,000t and 1 million sqm for construction board.
The Olympic Projects the Southeast Space Frame involved in:
Four Olympic venues, including Water Cube, Badminton & Rhythmic Gymnastics Hall for Olympic Games, Beijing Shooting Range Hall and Shenyang Olympic Sports Center Stadium.
Four key Olympic auxiliary projects, including Capital Airport T3A, T3C, Airport Baggage Handling System and CCTV Television Cultural Center.
