Nairobi’s Britam Tower Opens for Business

Recently, the second tallest skyscraper onthe African continent is ready for occupation. Rising 200 meters, Kenya’sBritam Tower is currently surpassed in height solely by South Africa’s Carlton Centreat 223 meters. Financial investment company Britam has said the 32-story towerlocated in the upmarket Upper Hill, Nairobi, is ready to let tenants, barelyeight months after the firm completed constructing the building. The totalinvestment of this project is about $69.7 million, which takes about 4 yearsfor completion.


The ultra-modern tower has a total lettablespace of 350,000 square feet (32,516 square meters) with 1,000 parking bays,and is ready for occupation by diplomatic missions, multinationals, privatecompanies, and financial institutions. The scheme comprises two separatebuildings, a 32-story office tower and a 15-story parking silo, joined to thelarger tower by a bridge at the silo’s top-most floor, which offers alternativemeans of evacuation during emergencies. It also boasts features such asearthquake-resistance technology, modern fire-safety provisions includingpressurized fire escape staircases, and state-of-the-art fire detection andfighting equipment. An advanced security surveillance system was also put inplace and is monitored on a 24-hour basis to boost security.
